GetMeInvoice started as a personal frustration. Our founder was a freelance designer billing clients across Canada — some in BC, some in Ontario, some in Alberta. Every month, the same problem: which rate do I charge? Where's my GST number? Why does this PDF look like it was generated in 1998?
The tools that existed were built for bookkeepers managing small business accounts, not for designers and developers and writers who just needed to bill for the work they did and get paid on time. They were complex, expensive, and ugly. The invoices they produced looked like something from a government website. Sending one felt like an apology.
So we built something different. GetMeInvoice is built around one core belief: the invoice is part of your brand. The last thing your client sees before they transfer money to you should reinforce that working with you was the right decision. It should look as good as the proposal that won the project.
We launched quietly in 2022. Within six months, 3,000 freelancers were using it. Within a year, 10,000. Not because of advertising — because people told each other about it. That's still the case today. We've never run a paid ad. Every user found us because another user recommended us, and that's the best kind of growth there is.
We're still a small team. We answer our own support emails. We read every piece of feedback. We ship features that real users ask for, not features that look good in a pitch deck. GetMeInvoice is what it is because of the freelancers who use it — and we intend to keep it that way.
Every pixel, every interaction, every PDF we generate is held to the same standard. If it's not something we'd be proud to send to a client ourselves, we don't ship it.
We add nothing that doesn't earn its place. Complexity is easy. Stripping a product to its most essential form — that's the hard work, and it's the work we care about most.
Transparent pricing, no dark patterns, no artificial limits to force upgrades. We'd rather have fewer customers who genuinely love the product than more who feel manipulated into paying for it.
